Hungry for Play and Sweat (Benedová / Kjær)

With this preproject, we challenge the premise that contact improvisation doesn’t hold performative value. We intend to extend the focus, engagement and joy of a game of contact improvisation beyond the realm of the players. To watch someone play is not exactly as enjoyable as playing, unless you somehow find yourself drawn into the thick of it.

The observers should feel included in the events, having an effect on what happens. We wish to tickle the spectators’ curiosity to the extent that they will not be able to take their eyes off the “game”. As if watching a puzzle building and dismantling itself whilst constantly feeding the imagination. With this research we intend to design and try out interactive strategies and scores, which can build a bridge between the spectator and contact improvising performers.
